Black cylindrical pendant light – Aethel

A thin, straight black tube hangs from the end of a transparent cable. It features neither ornamentation nor an apparent lampshade. This black cylindrical pendant light consists simply of an 8 cm cylinder. Its surface is matte, with no reflection.

The transparent cable is barely noticeable, giving the impression that the tube is floating. The light emerges from the bottom in a narrow, sharp cone. The top of the cylinder remains dark. The bulb is hidden inside. When you look up, you only see a small luminous disc at the base of the tube, surrounded by a dark wall.

Above a bedside table, the cone illuminates the top of the piece of furniture and a book. The bed remains in the shadows. In a kitchen, it illuminates a corner of the countertop. It replaces a wall light without the need to drill into the wall.

The product sheet indicates a single version: an 8 cm by 8 cm cylinder, an adjustable total height of 100 cm, and an 8 cm by 8 cm ceiling rose. The light fitting weighs 1.05 kg. The finish is matte black steel, with a transparent power cable.

The light fitting takes an LED bulb, not included, of 10 W maximum. The choice of bulb determines the colour temperature: warm white for a bedroom, neutral white for a workspace. An elongated bulb fits into the tube without touching its walls.

The height is adjusted during installation. Above a bedside table, the cylinder can be lowered to the shoulder level of a person sitting in bed. Above an island, it is placed higher, so that the line of sight passes beneath it. A transparent cable avoids the sight of a coloured wire against a light-coloured wall: the tube appears to be powered by nothing.

Steel tube pendant for bedside, kitchen island, and office

The cylinder is narrow and takes up no visual space. Arranged in a row of three or four above an island, several pendants of this type create a regular line. On its own, it serves as accent lighting near a bed.
