Woven bamboo wall light – Aella

A woven bamboo sphere with a tight mesh, suspended from a black cable. Above it, a wooden beam wrapped in rope serves as an arm. The Aella woven bamboo wall light brings together three raw materials on a small square mounting plate. The bamboo strands cross in a tight, slightly irregular weave that retains its straw colour. The wooden beam features a thick, hand-knotted rope. The rope is wrapped tightly, with no space between the coils, and retains a hemp-like appearance.

The weaving allows light to filter through a thousand tiny gaps. It is projected onto the wall and ceiling in a diamond pattern. The rope and wood remain in the shadows. The sphere hangs from a straight black cable that contrasts with the weave. Light passes through the mesh, drawing a grid on the wall and ceiling. The black cable hangs without any kinks, creating a clean vertical line between the beam and the sphere.

In a bedroom, hallway, or entryway, it adds natural texture to the wall. Lit, it creates a pattern. Unlit, it looks like a hanging basket. On an off-white wall, the projected pattern changes size depending on the distance. The closer the sphere is to the ceiling, the larger the diamonds. During the day, the sphere reads as a decorative object rather than a lamp.

Aella is available in a single version. The lampshade measures 20 cm wide by 23 cm high. The wooden support measures 18 cm by 12 cm. The socket is E26 type: the bulb is not included. The lampshade is wide enough that the socket is invisible from the room.

Choose a warm-toned bulb. The woven bamboo further enhances it. A bulb that is too powerful washes out the projected pattern, while a soft bulb allows it to appear. A warm-light globe bulb provides the best effect through the weave.

The wood of the support may show slight variations in shade. The rope is a decorative element; it is not intended to support the weight of the light fitting. A wall painted in a warm tone enhances the projected pattern, while a grey wall softens it.
